Immune boosting – gut friendly health drink

Turmeric lemon ginger drink – great for colds, flu & immunity

It’s winter in Sydney, loads of people I know have had some sort of sniffle, cough or flu over the last few weeks.  In my experience working for 20 years with the power of herbal medicines, these ailments can be treated very sucessfully with specific herbal medicines for the individual.

However, what if you are at home and want to put something together to get you started on rebalancing your health if you don’t have access to a bottle of herbal medicine?

Try this recipe.  It is for a drink mixture which can be pre-made and stored for weeks in the fridge.

It is wonderful support for the respiratory system during or after a cold or flu.  It also helps digestion (in particular acid reflux – however you might want to reduce the amount of garlic if this is you).  And it is also useful to drink while on anti-biotics or as part of the clean up for your gut microbiome – after anti-biotics (if you unfortunately have been on them recently).

Helps to “dry up” excess mucous congestion and reduces the potential over growth of the candida fungal species in the gut and “dampness” as described in TCM theory.  It is strongly also anti-inflammatory for the whole body.  And actually surprisingly yummy and refreshing.  Thanks goes to my Acupuncturist TCM buddy Tim Barrett, from Central Coast Body Mechanics who gave me this recipe.

Drink as a hot tea 30 mins before a meal 1-3 x day.

As my friend Tim said, just throw in roughly equal parts of…

  • Fresh turmeric root
  • Apple cider vinegar
  • Fresh lemon juice
  • Fresh garlic cloves
  • Fresh ginger root

Place these equal parts (roughly) in a food processor and blend into a paste.  Take 1-2 teaspoons in a cup of boiling water and serve as a tea.  Have anytime, but I find it is more effective to drink/sip 20-30 minutes before you eat.  Store in the fridge in a jar.

Enjoy!
